It has been estimated that 70% of migraine sufferers are female. Of these female migraine sufferers, 60%-70% report that their migraines are related to their menstrual cycles — hence the name, menstrual migraines.

In some cases, these painful headaches are preceded or accompanied by a sensory warning sign (aura), such as flashes of light, blind spots or tingling in your arm or leg.

Migraine headaches typically affect one side of the head. They can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Some people have them weekly, others have fewer than one a year. Migraines usually begin sometime between the teen years and the age of 40, and can be classified as either “”classic” or “”common.”

What causes migraines/headaches?

Migraine headaches seem to be caused in part by changes in the level of a body chemical called serotonin. Serotonin plays many roles in the body, and it can have an effect on the blood vessels. When serotonin levels are high, blood vessels constrict (shrink). When serotonin levels fall, the blood vessels dilate (swell). This swelling can cause pain or other problems.

The cause of migraine is unknown. The condition may result from a series of reactions in the central nervous system caused by changes in the body or in the environment. There is often a family history of the disorder, suggesting that migraine sufferers may inherit sensitivity to triggers that produce inflammation in the blood vessels and nerves around the brain and scalp, causing pain.

Signs And Symptoms Of Migraines/Headaches

Not all migraines are the same. Most people experience migraines without auras, which were previously called common migraines. Some, however, have migraines with auras, which were previously called classic migraines. If you’re in the second group, you’ll likely have an aura about 15 to 30 minutes before your headache begins.

Episodes can last from several hours to several days and often are disabling. During the attack, pain may travel from one part of the head to another and may radiate down the neck into the shoulder. Scalp tenderness occurs in the majority of patients during or after an attack.

Foods that may trigger migraines

Aged, canned, cured or processed meat, including bologna, game, ham, herring, hot dogs, pepperoni and sausage

Aged cheese, Aspartame, Avocados, Beans, including pole, broad, lima, Italian, navy, pinto and garbanzo

To help prevent migraines:

Keep a record of what you ate before each headache. Avoid foods, such as chocolate, cheese, and red wine, that seem to cause an attack. Don’t skip or delay meals.

Treatment Of Migraines/Headaches

There are two ways to approach the treatment of migraine headache with drugs: prevent the attacks, or relieve the symptoms during the attacks. Many people with migraine use both approaches by taking medications originally developed for epilepsy and depression to prevent future attacks, and treating attacks when they happen with drugs called triptans that relieve pain and restore function. Hormone therapy may help some women whose migraines seem to be linked to their menstrual cycle.

Preventative medication may be prescribed for patients who have frequent headaches (3 or more a month) that do not respond to abortive treatment. Studies have shown that as many as 40% of these patients may benefit from preventative treatment.

Medication therapies for migraine

Individuals with occasional mild migraine headaches that do not interfere with daily activities usually medicate themselves with over-the-counter (OTC, non-prescription) pain relievers (analgesics). Many OTC analgesics are available. OTC analgesics have been shown to be safe and effective for short-term relief of headache (as well as muscle aches, pains, menstrual cramps , and fever) when used according to the instructions on their labels.

Butalbital Blog

There are a lot of reasons why you may be on a search for information about migraines.

You may for example suffer from migraine headaches yourself or someone you know and care about might be afflicted by migraines. You might have recently had a family member diagnosed as having migraines or might be a student doing a research paper about this all too common form of headache. Regardless of why you are looking into the topic of migraines there is plenty of information on the subject.

Migraine is a medical disorder called a neurological syndrome and its principle symptoms for most individuals are generally very painful headaches and nausea. This reasonably common condition is found less frequently in men than in women.

A migraine headache produces a pain that is usually felt on just one side of the head and is by and large said to be throbbing or pulsating in nature. The headache will generally last anything from 4 hours to 72 hours and may be moderate to severe in intensity. There may also be other accompanying symptoms such as vomiting or sensitivity to sound or light.

There is another aspect of migraines and that is the presence of an “aura” in at least thirty percent of individuals suffering from migraines. The aura happens prior to the onset of the migraine and might include such things as the appearance of bright lights, zigzag lines or distorted shapes in various different colors and sizes that appear in the normal line of vision. Your field of vision might also reduce and can appear like tunnel vision or possibly a curtain-like effect often over one eye or dark spots that slowly spread.

You may also experience auditory changes such as hearing voices or environmental sounds such as buzzing. You may also experience weird smells or possible feelings of numbness or tingling to one side of the face or arms and legs. You may experience a sense of being separated from your own body or a feeling like your arms and legs are moving independently from your body. You may feel anxiety or fear alongside the aura or an unsteadiness or weakness. On occasions individuals experiencing an aura are unable to understand or comprehend words being spoken to them and can become exceedingly tired and sweat profusely or feel warmth throughout the body.

As well as talking about migraines with or without an aura there are several other ways of describing migraines.

Familial hemiplegic migraines for instance are those which are caused by ion channel mutations. Individuals suffering from this type of migraine as a rule experience limb weakness on one side of the body with visual, sensory or speech problems.

Another type of migraine is the abdominal migraine in which children have many of the symptoms of migraines with the exception of the head pain. Typical symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting may last from 1 to 72 hours.

Lastly, menstrual and acephalgic migraines are two other reasonably common forms of migraine. An acephalgic migraine is one in which an individual as a rule experiences an aura but does not experience a headache. Menstrual migraines have two characteristics and are either menstrual related migraines (MRM) or pure menstrual migraines (PMM). The menstrual related migraine is moderate to severe in pain intensity and occurs around the time of the monthly period and at other times too. The pure menstrual migraine appears only around the time of the woman’s monthly period.

Viagra

Research has suggested that migraine sufferers are up to 600% more likely to suffer a stroke in their lifetime than non-sufferers. It is True! In fact, migraines are actually much more serious than many people believed. And it carries with it a whole range of risk factors, which can be very serious indeed. Over the past few years, notable studies have revealed that migraine sufferers are at a higher risk of the following conditions:

Chronic Depression, Stroke, Alzheimer’s, Panic Disorder, Epilepsy, Anxiety Disorders, Manic Depressive Illness, Glaucoma, Asthma, and Multiple Sclerosis.

So what have you been doing to control your migraine headaches? If you are like most people, you take migraine medicine that has been prescribed by your doctor. But is that the best course of action for your eventual recovery?

Let me ask you, the migraine medicine may help to reduce the pain today, but does it do anything to prevent the migraine you will get tomorrow? Of course not! That’s why you have to keep taking the medication. It only treats the symptoms of migraines, it does nothing to prevent, or God forbid, cure them. You see, the way drug companies make money is by selling you pills on a regular basis. You need to buy their pills every month to get any relief. Drug companies are in the business of selling short term remedies and making long term profits.

In the last 50 years, how many illnesses have been cured with drugs? I don’t mean controlled, I mean cured. I can only think of a few. And when you consider the billions of dollars spent on drugs…

Do you think that drug companies might do that intentionally? I mean look for a treatment instead of a cure. Financially it makes more sense. But is it in yours and my best interests? Certainly not… It is only in the best interests of the drug companies.

So what should you do if you get migraines headaches and are being scammed by the drug companies? If you suffer from the disabling pain of migraines, there is hope. There are migraine treatments that can effectively eradicate migraine pain forever. The remedy that worked for me is called The Migraine Solution. It involves an easy, simple 3 step system. And if you’ve been buying expensive pills for your migraine headaches every month, you’ll appreciate how important a complete cure is to your health, as well as your pocketbook.

Using this simple 3 step system, people throughout the world have completely eliminated migraines from their lives forever. If you are afflicted by frequent migraine headaches, you know you need to do something. Isn’t it time that you got rid of the disabling pain and eliminated migraines forever?

If migraine headaches are a significant problem for you, check out this incredibly easy 3 step system. It is one of the best permanent migraine treatments available. And, you only pay for it once, not every month! For more information, get all the details on this incredible, permanent Migraine Headache Cure.

Butalbital Blog

A migraine is different from a regular headache. A migraine is usually very severe, with pain on only one side of the head. It is often accompanied by extreme sensitivity to light and nausea and vomiting. Migraines are a recurring condition. Some people may have one several times a month, while some may only have one or two a year. But when a migraine happens, it can be disabling.

It is estimated that 1 in 100 people suffer from migraines. Research on migraines in the past focused on changes in the blood vessels in the brain. However, new research is being done that points to changes in the brain itself. Scientists believe that the cause of a migraine involves a complex mix of chemical changes in the brain with various nerve pathways. They are still not sure what the exact chain of events are that cause a migraine, but believe that it can be triggered by such things as stress, environmental factors, or certain foods.

There are two types of migraines. There are those with auras or those without auras. Most people will have migraines without the auras. This is called the common migraine.

If you have migraines with auras you will see flashes of light, blind spots in your vision, zigzag lines in your vision and sometimes have tingling sensations in your arms or leg. These auras usually start about 15 to 30 minutes before the migraine start and serve as a good warning sign. On occasion, the aura can last throughout the duration of the migraine.

If you have migraine headaches, you probably know what helps the pain. Everyone is different when it comes to pain relief. Some people just want to lie down in a dark, quiet, room and sleep it off. Others will take medication developed especially for migraine headaches. It is important to note, that if you suffer from migraines and haven’t been to the doctor for treatment of them lately, it may be a good idea to see your doctor. There are a lot of new medications available for migraines now that weren’t available ten years ago.

Children can have migraines, too. Their migraines may have started in adolescence or early adulthood. There have been incidences of migraines in children as young as 1. The good news is, migraines in children don’t last as long and they typically grow out of them. With children the migraine will usually cause pain on both sides of the head. Children can also have nausea, vomiting and extreme sensitivity to light and sound, but have no headache pain. This type of migraine is especially difficult to diagnose and can be very frightening for the parents.

If you have migraines talk to your doctor about treatment. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Try to get adequate rest and reduce the stress in your life, if possible. Don’t let the thought of having another migraine headache interrupt your life.

Butalbital

If someone has ever mentioned having a migraine and you responded with a comment about it just being a headache, then you’ve been fortunate enough to never have suffered from a migraine – otherwise you’d never make that comment in the first place. A migraine does more than cause a bit of pain in your temples or that spot over the bridge of your nose where you get a sinus headache. This nervous system disease saps your strength, causes nausea and even makes the sufferer unable to see properly.

If you’re thinking that migraines aren’t very common, these statistics may surprise you:

* In developed areas, migraines are as much as 300 to 500 percent more common than in third world and Asian countries.

* More than 500,000,000 (five hundred million) people have migraines every year.

Since millions of people worldwide suffer from migraines each year, this disease is actually fairly serious. A migraine is not just a little headache – they cause people to lose work time, miss out on family events and generally enjoy life less than people who don’t get them.

So what exactly are migraine headaches and where do they come from?

There are actually two types of migraines. If you’ve been suffering from migraines and have a common migraine, it hits without warning. If you have a classic migraine, you do get some warning that it is coming, but the warning isn’t a nice one and is almost as bad as the headache itself. Anywhere from ten to thirty minutes before the actual headache hits, people who suffer from classic migraines will have something called an aura. Auras can include many symptoms, but visual difficulties, such as flashing lights, zig-zag lines and temporary loss of vision, are the most common warning signs. Other aura symptoms are difficulty with speech, feeling confused, tingling in the face or hands and weakness in arms or legs.

Migraine sufferers don’t always feel pain on both sides of their heads. This is because these headaches are unilateral, or on one side. Most people develop a headache around one eye or one side of their jaw and neck. As the migraine persists, it will envelope the rest of that side of the head. During a bad migraine, noise or light can worsen the pain and the sufferer may vomit from the pain they experience.

Another term for a migraine is vascular headache. This means that the headache happens because the blood vessels around and inside your skull change their shape and size. This is what actually causes the migraine pain and what makes it so difficult to treat at times.

Children rarely suffer from migraines. Teen boys develop migraines earlier than girls who will eventually suffer from this disease. However, in later years, women will be more likely to develop migraines than men. The good news is that, for many people, episodes of this nervous system disease eventually becomes less intense and less frequent. The bad news is that migraines can last for quite some time. There have been cases where these headaches lasted for as long as two weeks, although a range of a few hours to two days is more common. Some people have migraines several times a week, while others only have two or three episodes a year.

Finally, although more than one person has feared that the terrible pain of a migraine is because of a brain tumor, migraines are not caused by an underlying disease. They are very painful and dehabilitating while they are happening, but they aren’t fatal at all.

There are ways to deal with, cope and even treat your migraine headache and you can find more information, from a fellow, migraine sufferer by following the resource section at the bottom of this article.

Viagra
