Although pain affects more than 76 million Americans, it can be an isolating experience. According to the American Pain Foundation, pain is a critical, biological warning sign to the body when something. Pain can signal injury, such as touching a hot oven, or an underlying disease or infection, such as cancer or shingles. Pain is classified as acute or chronic. Acute pain usually follows surgery or injury and resolves as the body heals itself. Pain is diagnosed as chronic when it persists after healing has taken place.

Failure to treat acute pain promptly and appropriately can contribute to the development of chronic pain syndromes. In such cases, pain signals remain active in the nervous system for weeks, months or even years. In addition, pain can lead to other health problems, causing damage to the body. If untreated, chronic pain can weaken the immune system, decrease the quality of life, create feelings of anger and depression, lead to a deterioration of relationships, and result in a loss of independence.

Many people wrongly assume they have to live with pain – that it is an inevitable part of their disease or condition, or a natural part of growing older. The fact is most pain can be relieved with proper pain management.

Pain should be assessed thoroughly and treated early and aggressively. Early treatment is the best way to minimize the suffering and disability often associated with under-treated pain.

It’s important to become your own best advocate as you navigate the road to pain relief and reclaim your life. The earlier you seek treatment, the better. Following are some helpful things to keep in mind from the American Pain Foundation:

In the search for a healthcare provider who will help you reach your goals of pain relief and management, you may have been told, “Nothing more can be done to ease your pain,” or “You’ll just have to live with it.” If this is your situation, take the time to find a healthcare provider who has the education, skills and willingness to work with you to manage pain. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Only you know the extent of your pain and how it affects your quality of life.

Consider starting a pain notebook, a tool to help you keep a record of pain. The notebook should include when the pain occurs, for how long, the level of pain, and its impact on day-to-day life. Keeping track of what things make your pain better or worse will help your healthcare team find the best ways to treat pain.

Knowledge is power. There are a variety of drug and non-drug therapies (e.g., physical therapy, yoga, meditation) available to effectively control pain. These are typically used in combination. Ask your healthcare provider about ways to relax and cope with pain. Pain can feel worse if you are stressed, depressed or anxious. Be an informed consumer and learn all you can about pain and pain management options.

As you work with your healthcare provider, set realistic goals for things you most want to do. Do you want to achieve better sleep? Begin exercising or return work? Begin with the easiest goals first. Set realistic goals for pain relief. Persistent pain tends not to disappear. Look for a provider who will work with you to get you to the point where you can “live life again.”

Prior to appointments, write down questions you have and let your provider know if there is something you don’t understand. Also, bring along a relative or close friend to provide support and to help take notes and remember what was said. Sometimes, it’s easy to forget or misunderstand what was explained during doctor’s appointments. Having someone else there to process the information can be a great boost to your appointments.

During initial appointments, share with your provider what over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements you take, at what does and how often. Also, be honest about personal health habits, such as smoking, alcohol use, etc., which can interfere with some pain treatments and increase pain levels.

Finally, find out about support groups and educational programs in your area or online. Also seek the support and encouragement of friends and family members when you need them. They can provide the incentive you need to not give up in your quest for pain relief. And remember, there will be both good and bad days. Give yourself some grace as you traverse the road to pain relief.

is one of the more common pain sensations that we may feel in our lifetime. The stress resulting in back pain can come from many causes such as when one carries heavy weight, performs a strenuous exercise, or when one assumes an improper posture or bed position. The most dreaded back pain is lower back pain, which could be a symptom of various complications in the abdomen area. Pain experienced in the lower back makes it difficult for people to stand upright, walk, and perform other more physical activities.

Back pain, common as it is, can render an individual unavailable to work. In fact, it is second only to the common cold as the biggest reason why people skip work. For highly physical tasks like construction or any other fieldwork, having lower back pain will cause you to under perform in your tasks. That is why lower back pain should be attended to properly.

Back pain is also one of the most common reasons why people go to the hospital or to the doctor’s office. If the back pain turns for the worse and becomes a chronic back pain, the doctor can recommend several treatments to curb the symptom. However, acute or intermittent back pain can be treated in your home.

The first thing that you can do for back pain treatments is to assume an appropriate bed position when sleeping. Most of the problems in our back can occur because of the strain experienced when we lie down. When your back assumes a strenuous position for long hours, which is the case when we sleep, we will feel the pain the first thing in the morning. You can correct this by sleeping with a pillow between your knees and lie sideways. This will increase the comfort of your back since it avoids unnecessary strain. Check with your doctor for the right kind of mattress that you should lie on according to your body type. While it may seem drastic to change beds, it will actually help your back in the long run.

Exercise is also another way to alleviate back pain. While there is no one exercise that can solve all back problems, any form of exercise is useful to loosen up your back muscles, bones, and joints. If you have chronic back pain, exercise is the best way for you to return to normal activities at work. Some chronic back pains can go away even without treatment, but regular exercise will speed up the recovery process.

Non-prescription medications can also provide relief from back pain. You can take these medicines for temporary pain alleviation. Some of these medicines include ibuprofen like Advil, Motrin, and Nuprin. These medicines are excellent pain relievers and are readily available over the counter. If you have chronic back pain, it is not advised to take these medicines regularly, because they may increase the risk for ulcers and gastrointestinal complication. Seek the assistance of your doctor, so he can give you the right combination of medicines that you can sustain for long-term intake. Your doctor can suggest other drugs like acetaminophen, which is an effective substitute for ibuprofen.

A non-traditional way to treat back pain is acupuncture. Acupuncture therapy is a Chinese medical practice that involves sticking needles on key points of the body. Scientific studies have shown that acupuncture is more effective than conventional methods in treating back pains.

Massage during bed rest is also an effective way to treat back pains. Massage with topical medicines and ointments essentially heats up the back and relaxes the muscles to make them loose. With regular application, you can treat chronic back pains in a fair amount of time. A back massage is also one of the highly recommended treatments because it brings immediate relief.

There are some wide misconceptions regarding back pain treatments that you should avoid if you want to heal permanently. First, stretching does not help. Stretching places additional strain on a patient’s back that can worsen the situation, especially if the stretching is not done right. Secondly, prolonged bed rest is not a back pain treatment. In fact, doctors encourage their patients to exercise as much as possible to loosen their backs. While bed rest immediately relieves back pain, it can flare up as easily when you get up. At the same time, being at rest for a long period of time can lead to depression and other complications.

Back pains have common treatments just as it is a very common occurrence. If the symptoms persist, it is best to consult your doctor, so he can consider other possibilities for your back pain. Perhaps there is a more serious underlying condition such as structural bone damage, arthritis, or osteoporosis. It is important to know more about your condition, so you can treat it promptly.

This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni’s Fountain of Youth Summit, which can be found at http://fountainofyouthworldsummit.com. In this excerpt, Jesse Connone the biggest mistake people with back pain make.

The Fountain of Youth World Summit with Jesse Connone, personal trainer and co-founder of the Healthy Back Institute.

Kevin: Lets start with you know how you started the healthy back pain institute? Let’s talk about what you had to go through and why you are here today?

Jesse: Sure. I have spent 7 or 8 years working as a personal trainer as you know and been working as a personal trainer, working with clients one on one. Over the years I had noticed there is this reoccurring theme. So many of the people that I work with had injuries that we had to work around and the most common one was back pain, various forms of back and neck pain. And so you know in the 7 or 8 years that I did personal training I got very experienced working with people with these types of conditions like back pain and almost all of the time my clients got better relief from my fitness training than they did their treatments with their doctor.

Kevin: O.k.

Jesse: And so like I said I got really good at helping people identify you know the root cause of what was going on you know why was their body giving them trouble? Why was their pain? And so on. Finally it just kind of clicked and like oh this is it, this is what I really enjoy doing the most. This is what I am the best at and so I along with a friend created again what is called the healthy back institute and you can find us online at losethebackpain.com and as you mentioned our number one focus and mission is to help people with various forms of back pain. And so we have everything from you know highly active discussion forum on our website where people can communicate, ask questions. We have all kinds of people from all over the world helping each other; you know sharing their experiences and so on. We have articles, books, videos, audios. We even just recently started offering a one on one treatment package.

Kevin: Oh, Very cool!

Jesse: Yes so basically you know the focus is to help people you know with back pain because so many people that have back pain, sciatica, neck pain so on, the treatment that they or the treatments that they are getting usually don’t work or if they do work it’s usually temporary. And we can talk about you know why that is in a moment but the fact is most people who have back pain have it for years and years and years. And actually I can share with you an interesting statistic.

Kevin: Sure

Jesse: We did this survey recently of our customers and that’s over 40,000 customers and in the survey we found that 65% of the people who responded to the survey had had back pain for more than a year.

Kevin: Wow

Jesse: and when you break it down you know we had under a year, for one to two years, 2 to 4 years, 4 to 6, 6 to 10. There was actually over 25% of these people who had back pain over 10 years. So it’s like a massive problem. And for most people it’s a reoccurring problem. It’s not something that you get it once and it goes away forever. It typically comes back and we will talk about why it comes back to later on in this call but it just goes to show you and as any person with back pain will probably agree the treatments that are available typically just don’t work like I said they don’t deliver lasting relief. They may deliver the temporary relief, the pain may go away for a couple of weeks or a couple of months even but its going to come back and usually it comes back worse than it did before.

Kevin: Right! What are some of the mistakes that people make with back pain? What are some of the things that they assume is going to happen? Why don’t we get into I know you have the list of mistakes that you have identified as things that happened to the general population who are in pain. What are some of those?

Jesse: Sure There are 7 key mistakes that we have identified you know again in working with 40,000 people one of the things that really has helped us is we just don’t sell products you know to help people. We actually work with people personally so if you buy a product from us you may do the program on your own but you actually talk to us on the phone personally.

Kevin: Oh wow that’s great . You have an intimate knowledge of what they have been doing.

Jesse: Right yeah, very much though. I see all kinds of people. I get their pictures of them standing in their underwear. So we can analyze their posture. And their muscle balances.

Kevin: Sure!

Jesse: And so we call basically personal support and so we work really closely with all these people. One of the things that I found was a set of 7 key mistakes that people make. We are not going to make a call through all of them in detail but I will go through some of the bigger ones that I think present a larger problem for people. And the first one is not dealing with the problem the first time, like I mentioned a few moments ago.

Most people, who have back pain, have it for longer period of time. And it comes and goes. And one of the reason that is the case because what happens is, you know somebody wakes up one morning and boom their back soar. Or they are outside shelving snow. And all of sudden they say, my back went out. I threw my back out. Or I picked up a box, whatever the case maybe, all of sudden they have this case of back pain. Typically what most people do is they rest a little bit. They might take up over the counter pain killers Tylenol, Advil things like that whatever. If it is bad enough, they will go their doctors. They’ll get a prescription strength drug and usually within a couple of days or at most couple of weeks. Most initial cases of back pain will go away.

If you do this minor things to kind of adjust the symptoms like take rest and take medications. The problem is something that caused their back pain flair up to happen. And unless you take the time right then and there to figure out why, what’s going on with your body. Why did this happen to me. Unless you take the time to do that then which 99% of people don’t again they let the pain go away on its own, it going to come back later. And again like I said earlier again it’s almost over it will come back again worst than the first case. Most people like usually two to four months for the pain comes back. So that mistake is usually again, not dealing with it you know the first case. Through the first incident and again like dealing with it what I mean by it is specifically finding out the exact cause of pain. And not just the cause as in offense of the condition somebody might have back pain and go to a doctor and diagnosed with a herniated disc. And so they think the cause of the pain is the herniated disc.

Kevin: O.k.

Jesse: That’s the condition. But you have to go deeper than that, you have to go and say, and this hernia disk is causing the pain. Why do I have the hernia or disk? It doesn’t happen for no reason. You know there is a reason and there is a cause there. And unlike most people are let to believe. Primarily by misinformation put up by doctors or just lack of information put up by doctors. You know the herniated disc, this just doesn’t happen just out of the blue. Like most people are again let to believe. It’s something that is building up over the time. It’s just that you don’t have a blow out or tire on your car driving down the highway, it’s a relatively new tire or it’s in good condition. This doesn’t happen. You know when you wear down the tire. You are driving down the tire with not enough thread. You know your tires were worn down under unevenly because your steering is out of alignment and then you have a blowout. But just that the incidents happen that day. It doesn’t mean that it’s really building up for a long time.

Kevin: What’s a fantastic analogy.

Jesse: So again going again back to the main point here is first mistake is not dealing with this the first time it happens. Kevin : I see pictures that my chiropractors has shown me about stage one, stage two, stage three maybe you can explain that when pain actually occurs.

Jesse: Sure! There is couple of reasons you can feel pain. As far as back pain in sciatica goes. One is muscular pain so you can damage muscle tissue, you know you can strain some muscles. You can have sore and achy muscles. Friends and a lot of people type and soar back muscles and that is because there body is out of whack. There body is out of balance and their body is kind of thrown their body off. And these certain muscles, you know in this case certain muscles of the lower back. They run up and down the spine. These muscles are constantly being overworked. So instead of being out to work and relax like other muscles, these muscles like have constant tension on them because their body is pulling them constantly where if the spine and pelvis were almost in the neutral position. You know there wouldn’t be a constant tension. So there is this muscular aspect of back pain. Then there is nerve related pain where a disc could be putting pressure on the nerve. A bone or one of the vertebrae could be putting pressure on nerves. A narrowing of the spinal canal could be putting pressure on the nerve.

Kevin: Right!

Jesse: So you always have to keep than in mind the number one to focus on to is getting to the bottom of it and finding out what is that root cause. And so these physical dysfunctions, you know again you body being pulled out of whack and force to function this way. It is caused by the balances in muscles. Primarily they are several other minor things that contribute to. But the number one factor is muscle balances. And basically what that means is, if you have two opposing muscle groups. Let’s say your front of your thighs and back of your thighs. Corte subs and Hamstrings, There are two opposing muscle groups; if those muscle groups are not “Balance” that doesn’t mean balance in strengths. Like if you could do 50 pounds on leg extension and 30 pounds on the leg curl. That doesn’t mean you are out of balance. But out of balance of same point of how much they are pulling on the joint of those muscles affect.

Nowadays joint pain is a common disease and people aren’t aware of the fact that if we let it aggravate, it can affect the quality of our life. Joint pain can be quite bothersome and the more severe types of pain will certainly make you consult a doctor and take the adequate treatment. Nevertheless, the most important aspects in the treatment of joint pain are prevention and rest.

One of the most frequent joint pains, knee joint pain is often involved in rheumatic diseases and immune diseases which affect the joints. Our knee joint has three compartments and the most common causes of knee joint pain include injuries, degeneration, arthritis, infections and rarely bone tumors. Usually, knee pain is a consequence of overuse, inadequate stretching and not warming up or cooling down during physical activities. Another cause of knee pain is overweight.

If a simple knee joint pain can be cured by means of rest and self care, we suggest calling a doctor if you cannot bear weight on your knee, the knee is deformed, you have a severe pain, you still feel the pain after a couple of days of rest. According to the severity of the knee joint pain, your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs or he may inject a steroid which reduces pain and inflammation. If you suffer from severe pain, you may also consult a physical therapist. In some cases of severe knee joint pain, you may need a joint replacement or surgery.

Treatments for knee joint pain depend on the cause and the gravity of the problem. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to understand the cause of your symptoms, before beginning a treatment. If you are not sure of your diagnosis or of the gravity of your condition you should see a doctor in order to have an adequate treatment. The most common treatments for joint pain are rest, ice and heat application, physical therapy, stretching, anti-inflammatory medication and cortisone injections.

Another common joint pain which shouldn’t be neglected is elbow joint pain. When it comes to elbow injuries, the most frequent treatment is rest, due to the fact that most elbow injuries are caused by overuse. A limited usage of the elbow will significantly reduce elbow joint pain. In the case of a more severe pain, the doctors can recommend a heat therapy, which increases circulation and accelerates healing. Cold therapy is used in order to reduce the swelling and the pain.

Cortisone injections are used for a severe elbow joint pain, since they alleviate the pain and the swelling, but the drawback is that they can deteriorate the ligaments after repetitive doses. Surgery is the last option at your disposal, just as it is in the case of knee pain and other types of joint pain. Although elbow joint pain can be treated, do not let it aggravate if you experience any symptoms.

If your elbow joint pain doesn’t go away in a couple of days of rest, we suggest consulting a doctor. He will be able to establish the causes of your pain and to prescribe you an adequate treatment. Furthermore, he can recommend you a chiropractor or a physical therapist. Thus, you can make sure that the pain won’t aggravate and that it will disappear with the proper treatment.

Although most people tend to ignore joint pain, thinking that it will go away without treatment or rest, this is not the case with most joint pains. As a consequence, we strongly advise you to take care of your health and to treat joint pain from the very beginning. By doing this, you will avoid any possible aggravations and you won’t have any unpleasant surprises.

Back pain is reported to be the most common cause of missed work, right after flu and colds. In fact, back pain is so common that many people consider it inevitable, especially with increasing age.

But it may be possible to avoid some types of back pain by better understanding its causes and avoiding or preventing them in the first place.

And while over-the-counter pain relief medications can help lessen back pain once it occurs, exercise, improved posture, and good furniture can strengthen and heal your back and even prevent back pain from occurring in the first place.

This article will guide you in both ways: how to avoid back pain and how to find back relief.

Back Pain Causes

The back is a powerful structure comprising bone, muscle, and elastic discs. This marvel of efficiency allows you to bend, twist, and carry weight. However, its flexibility makes it susceptible to injury and pain. Not surprisingly, back pain often results from neglect or other lifestyle factors such as:

* Bad posture – A normal adult spine resembles a double ‘S’. When you slouch, the pelvis and the stomach thrust forward, the knees bend, and the back muscles are strained. This strain can easily lead to back pain.

* Sedentary lifestyle and stress – Lack of exercise tends to weaken the muscles in the body. At the same time, stress can lead to muscle tension, causing the unprepared muscles to spasm.

* Weak abdominal muscles – Back pain is often related to weak stomach muscles, which can place added stress on the back.

* Obesity – Overweight people may find it difficult to maintain proper posture, and the burden of additional weight puts pressure on the back.

* High heels – They push the body’s center of gravity forward. To offset this, people tend to bend their knees and move their torsos forward. This can exaggerate the spine’s inward curve, leading to back pain.

People can also experience back pain as a result of specific health conditions:

* Spondylosis – Arthritis of the spine occurs due to degenerative spinal changes, and is often characterized by back pain.

* Spondylolisthesis – This occurs when one spinal vertebra slips forward on top of another one, causing back pain.

* Spinal stenosis – When the space around the spinal column and nerve roots is reduced, nerves are pinched or pressed, resulting in back pain. Arthritis and bone overgrowth trigger this condition.

* Herniated disc – One of the most common causes of back pain, this condition occurs when a spinal disc presses on a nerve. It’s also referred to as slipped disc.

* Sciatica – Sharp, shooting pain that radiates through the lower back or buttocks to the back of the leg when a herniated disc presses the sciatic nerve.

* Spinal infection – When this occurs, back pain is often accompanied by fever and tenderness.

Back Pain Relief Options

Not every type of back pain is a condition you have to put up with. In addition to medication and home therapies, there are a variety of complementary and alternative therapies that can provide back pain relief.

Bed rest may help relieve acute, temporary back pain. But this may not work for chronic back pain, which may require long-term treatment.

Here are just some of the methods you can try to get back pain relief:

* Heat and ice treatment – For lower back pain relief, use an ice pack first to sooth the sore muscles. You can use a cold compress several times a day for up to 20 minutes per treatment. A warm compress or a heating pad loosens the muscles and increases blood flow, which can provide some back pain relief.

* Chiropractic care – Some research on pain relief has shown that chiropractic manipulation may be as effective as pain relief medication for certain patients.

* Acupuncture – In this alternative medicine procedure, the practitioner inserts sterilized stainless steel needles at specific points on the body. This may stimulate the brain to release natural endorphins, which can provide some level of back pain relief.

* Electrical stimulation – Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) often works for acute back pain. In this procedure, weak electrical pulses sent to nerve pathways through specific points prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. This back pain relief procedure may be appropriate for those who prefer to avoid medication.

* Over-the-counter medication – Drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen can help reduce inflammation and relieve back pain, while acetaminophen controls pain without addressing inflammation.

* Prescription medication – When over-the-counter drugs fail to provide pain relief, doctors may prescribe a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (other than aspirin or ibuprofen), a muscle relaxant, or other medication.

* Epidural injections – When other measures fail to relieve back pain, doctors may prescribe epidural injections of anti-inflammatory medication such as cortisone to provide pain relief.

Back Pain Don’ts

* Do not exercise while suffering from severe back pain.

* Do not sit for long periods when suffering from back pain. Sitting exerts more pressure on your nerves than standing or lying down. This can exacerbate back pain.

* Do not slouch or overarch your back, as this increases pressure on the lower back and may cause back pain to become more intense.

How To Avoid Back Pain

Many people who suffer from chronic back pain have found that a few lifestyle changes and healthy work habits can help them avoid recurrences of back pain:

* Exercise – Exercise not only helps to maintain proper weight, but also helps build and maintain strong muscles. However, if you already suffer from back pain, consult your doctor before starting an exercise routine.

* Good posture – A balanced posture allows the body to relax while maintaining an erect position. If you stand for long hours, avoid back pain by placing one foot on a stool or a box to avoid stressing the pelvis. While sitting, make sure that your lower back is supported and that your feet stay flat on the floor.

* Bend and lift properly – Improper bending is a common cause of back pain. When bending down, bend your knees, separate your feet about shoulder width apart, and keep your back straight. When lifting things, let your legs bear your weight, keep objects close to your body, and ask for help if the load is too heavy.

* Sleeping position – Sleep on your side, with your knees bent towards the chest. Place a pillow between the knees to reduce pressure on the back.

* Heel inserts – To reduce the risk of back pain, some doctors recommend heel inserts to alleviate stress on the lower back and provide shock absorption.

* Medium-firm mattresses – Sleep on a mattress that is firm enough to support your body but does not distort the body’s natural curves.

* Car seating position – Tilt your car seat back slightly, so that your knees are higher than your hips. Place the seat close enough to the wheel to let your arms bend.

Treating your back with respect is one key to avoiding back pain. However, if you already do have back pain, a variety of pain relief medications and treatments are available.

Knee pain does not care about your age or your overall health. It does not care how rich or poor you may be either… Sharp knee pain can effect you differently and we will discuss how to help effectively treat this problem in this article, so read on my friend…

Despite the origination of your sharp knee pain, there is one thing in common: It hurts!

Sharp knee pain can stop you in your tracks, put a damper on your activities, and generally decrease your quality of life. What’s more interesting is that sharp knee pain causes can be difficult to identify because numerous factors may be contributing to your discomfort. If you are able to figure out what your sharp knee pain was caused by, then this is a step in the right direction.

Of all the joints in the human body, the knee joint seems to cause the most trouble for most people. In general, 9 out of 10 individuals will indicate that they have suffered from knee pain problems at some point in their lives.

Sharp knee pain causes are often hard to pinpoint because of the inconsistency of the pain. It may come on from time to time, or it may be present for only certain activities. Actually, this seeming inconsistency may hold the key to identifying sharp knee pain causes, so it is important to keep track of when you experience the sharp pain, and what activities you were doing at the time.

Some of the causes of sharp knee pain are self-evident. Sudden injury to the anatomical structures of the knee joint (i.e. twisting the knee) can result in severe knee discomfort. Moreover, trauma to the knee joint(i.e. falling and hitting the knee cap), can result in sharp knee pain issues. On the other hand, some causes of knee discomfort are not always so noticeable. A few of the more common, less obvious causes are as follows:

Arthritis: Arthritis can develop slowly, gradually affecting the mobility of the knee until one day, you begin to experience sharp pain.

Free-Floating Matter: Bits of bone or cartilage can break off within the knee and shift around, interfering with the mechanics of the knee and causing sharp pain.

Chondromalacia: This condition occurs when the cartilage under the knee cap (patella) becomes soft, allowing the knee cap to rub against the bone, causing sharp pain.

Malalignment: The knee joint can become malaligned, forcing the patella out of place and putting extra stress on the muscles and ligaments. This problem, sometimes caused by such simple things as improper gait, bad posture, and overuse, can be a cause of sharp knee pain.

Bursitis or Tendonitis: Sometimes, the bursae (sacs of fluid) around the knee joint, or the tendons within the knee become inflamed, and becomes another of the many knee pain causes.

There are several other causes of intense knee pain. In order to properly diagnose the causes of your knee pain, you need to be evaluated by a qualified medical professional. Still, in the interim, whatever the cause of your knee pain, you may be able to obtain some relief through the use of a well designed knee brace.

In the vast majority of cases, a knee brace can help protect your knee and help alleviate your painful symptoms. Well designed knee supports can come in several different styles, and they are not difficult to use. Some are more rigid (which can be a good thing) with a hinge that prevents excessive painful movements; others are soft, being more flexible in nature.

Regardless of the style or type, knee braces are designed to help support your knee, helping to take the pressure off the joint and thus helping to reduce any inflammation that may be causing discomfort.

Knee braces are also designed to help keep the knee properly aligned, thus helping to prevent sharp pain caused by malalignment while also helping you to avoid traumatic injury.

Truely, back pain also known dorsalgia, is pain felt in the back that usually originates from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine. Back pain is one of humanitys most frequent complaints. It can be a sign of a serious medical problem, although this is not most frequently the underlying cause. Typical warning signs of a potentially life threatening problem are bowel or bladder incontinence or progressive weakness in the legs. The back pain that occurs after a trauma, such as a car accident or fall may indicate a bone fracture or other injury. It can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. Back pain is called chronic if it lasts for more than three months.

Pain

However, pain may have a sudden onset or can be a chronic pain, it can be constant or intermittent, stay in one place or radiate to other areas. The pain may be felt in the neck and might radiate into the arm and hand, in the upper back, or in the low back and might radiate into the leg or foot and may include symptoms other than pain, such as weakness, numbness or tingling. Nevertheless, a few observational studies suggest that two conditions to which back pain is often attributed, lumbar disc herniation and degenerative disc disease may not be more prevalent among those in pain than among the general population and that the mechanisms by which these conditions might cause pain are not known.

Spine

Meanwhile, the spine is a complex interconnecting network of nerves, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments and all are capable of producing pain. Large nerves that originate in the spine and go to the legs and arms can make pain radiate to the extremities. The relationship between the magnetic resonance imaging appearance of the lumbar spine and low back pain, age and occupation in males. Magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine in people without back pain. However, arthritis can affect any joint in the body, including the small joints of the spine. Arthritis of the spine can cause back pain with movement. If the spine becomes unstable enough, back pain can become a problem.

Treatment

However, treatment of acute back pain is short term and usually successful. Treatment is then based on avoiding postures or movements that aggravate symptoms, as well as performing or adhering to postures to assist in symptom reduction. Once you have a diagnosis for your back pain or radiating leg pain, you should carefully review your treatment options. Not all treatments work for all conditions or for all individuals with the same condition and many find that they need to try several treatment options to determine what works best for them. The present stage of the condition acute or chronic is also a determining factor in the choice of treatment.

Generally, some form of consistent stretching and exercise is believed to be an essential component of most back treatment programs. The treatments with uncertain or doubtful benefit Injections, such as epidural steroid injections and facet joint injections may be effective when the cause of the pain is accurately localized to particular sites. The treatment of acute low back pain is bed rest, exercises, or ordinary activity. This is important to know because different treatments work better for each type of pain. With physical therapy, follow up treatment and prevention practices, these patients typically return to full functionality in a few weeks. Though, they may occassionally reinjure themselves and have to return for a short course of treatment.

Acupressure is closely related to acupuncture but without the needles. The idea of acupressure is to put pressure on specific points in the body, using only hands and fingers to restore balance and thus relieve pain. Herbs have been used to relieve pain for thousands of years. Todays pain relieving medications are mostly synthetic reproductions of these long used and natural herbs. The main difference is that the synthetic reproductions often produce a lot of side effects but the natural herbs they are based upon do not. Chiropractors have been manipulating spines for many years. Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases. Chiropractic medicine as we recognize it today was not actually established until 1895. The AMA was established in 1847, so they do have a jump on chiropractors as such.

Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 9 out of 12 people at some point during their lives. No conclusions can be drawn about the use of cold for lowback pain. Bed rest is rarely recommended as it can exacerbate symptoms and when necessary is usually limited to one or two days. Chronic back pain tends to last a long time and is not relieved by standard types of medical management. However, acute back pain is commonly described as a very sharp pain or a dull ache, usually felt deep in the lowerpart of the back and can be more severe in one area, such as the right side, left side, center, or the lower part of the back.

At one point or another each of us has experienced pain.

Though few people actually welcome it, few would deny that it has an essential role to play in our survival. After all, without pain, we simply wouldn’t be aware that tissue damage is taking place somewhere in our body and that we need to do something – fast.

In any approach to pain, of course, we need to first check with a qualified doctor or other medical practitioner. It is essential that we get a proper medical evaluation of our situation and the correct treatment for any disease or injury that we may have suffered.

But what if we have already done this? But what if we have already received and understood the message pain brings, done all we – and the doctor – can do and yet still the pain exists?

This is the predicament faced by millions of us on a daily basis. And living with this kind of pain seriously affects the quality of life for anyone forced to experience and endure it.

Generally speaking, pain may be divided into two distinct types: Acute pain and chronic pain.

Acute pain is useful and indeed, essential. It informs us of what needs attention and this is the reason for its existence. It’s a signal relayed from the wounded area to the brain alerting us to take action.

But chronic pain is altogether different. With pain of this kind, we have already received the message and still it persists. It is ongoing and relentless. It’s as if we seem to be just stuck with it.

Indeed, the chronic pain generated by conditions such as rheumatism, back and shoulder pain, arthritis, migraine headaches, post surgical pain, cancer (and sometimes its treatment), fybromyalgia etc serves no useful purpose. It is unneeded for our survival.

Put simply, chronic pain is useless pain.

When pain outlives its usefulness it needs to be muted or silenced.

Perhaps the most surprising thing is that we almost always look to ourselves last in any attempt to control our chronic pain. Yet it is within our self and our own mind that real pain relief and truly effective pain control can be found.

Because we are so accustomed to looking outside of ourselves for help with pain, we seem to have a learned mind-set of helplessness when it comes to chronic pain. We have been conditioned to accept that something or someone external to ourselves is responsible for making pain go away.

Understanding that we have it within our self to control pain is a major step forward in releasing its truly debilitating grip on our life.

And this is the wonderful power of using hypnosis and self-hypnosis for pain relief.

With properly applied hypnosis we are empowered to instruct our own mind to dramatically reduce – and in many cases totally eliminate – any pain we may be experiencing.

No drugs, no apparatus, no TEMS machines are needed. Indeed, hypnosis is so powerful that it can be, and sometimes is, used instead of local or general anaesthetic in order to completely eliminate pain even in major surgery.

All that’s required is your mind’s own innate capacities and abilities.

If you or someone you care about suffers from chronic pain, there really is something you can do about it.

By working with an experienced and fully qualified transformational hypnotherapist, you can learn how to control even long-standing chronic pain.

Using the power of your own mind you can indeed learn to control pain – and regain control of your life.
