Jim Pretin asked:

Lexapro, also known by its scientific name Escitalopram, is a very popular antidepressant used to treat depression associated with mood disorders. It is also used in certain cases to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and anxiety. If you have never used Lexapro before, you need to familiarize yourself with the drug interactions and the side effects associated with it.

The recommended dosage of Lexapro is 10-20 mg a day. The elderly should take smaller doses and pregnant women should avoid taking the drug altogether. However, the effectiveness of Lexapro over an extended time period has not been sufficiently studied. So, if doctors are prescribing Lexapro to a patient over a long period of time, continuous evaluation of the patient is necessary.

Citalopram and other SSRIs have been shown to cause sexual side effects in most patients, both males and females. Although usually reversible, these sexual side effects can sometimes last a very long time after discontinuation. This disorder is known as Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction. Weight gain is another possible side effect associated with Lexapro.

Discontinuation from antidepressants, especially abruptly, has been known to cause certain withdrawal symptoms. One possible discontinuation symptom from Escitalopram is a type of spontaneous nerve pulse known as paresthesia or “electric shock sensations”, described by some patients as a feeling of small electric shocks, which may be accompanied by dizziness.

Lexapro withdrawal symptoms can occur at any dosage. Lexapro withdrawal symptoms can begin within eight hours of a missed dose and can last from one to eight weeks. Some patients have reported hallucinations as a side effect experienced from the withdrawal.

If already using Lexapro, the best advice is to taper off slowly instead of quitting suddenly. It is important to develop a specific tapering schedule with your health care provider to minimize Lexapro withdrawal symptoms. Anyone discontinuing Lexapro runs the risk of suffering from withdrawal symptoms.

Other discontinuation symptoms include extreme sensitivity to loud sounds and bright lights, chills, hot flushes, cold sweats, reddening of the face, abdominal pain, weight gain and extreme mental fatigue. Also possible is severe irritability and sadness/depression like symptoms.

I hope you have found this information helpful. Be sure to disclose to your physician any other drugs you might be taking before requesting a prescription for Lexapro. Although the aforementioned side effects do not occur in some people who take the medication and may be mild in those who do experience the effects, they can happen to even the most healthy individuals, so you should be cautious when using this drug.

argiro.mike asked:

The Side Effects There are a few side effects of Zoloft that one needs to be aware of. While some of these are quite common and not that serious, a few are rare and can be serious if not dealt with quickly. If you are under the medication and if you are experiencing any of the side effects over a period of time, then it is best to consult your physician. It is wise to seek a specialist’s opinion as early as possible. For the more common side effects however, your physician would most likely make you aware of them and will tell you to wait and watch, because most of them tend to go away over a period of time. Zoloft is contraindicated in patients who are already taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or the antipsychotic pimozide. For elderly patients who have issues of liver impairment, Zoloft must be prescribed under extreme caution. This is so because Zoloft slows the rate of elimination of sertraline in these patients. Common Side Effects There are a few common side effects of Zoloft which have been reported by a large section of patients who have been prescribed the drug. These side effects include nausea (in 25% of patients), insomnia (in 21% of patients), diarrhea (in 20% of patients), ejaculation failure (in 14% of patients), dry mouth (in 14% of patients), somnolence (in 13% of patients), dizziness (in 12% of patients), tremor (in 8% of patients) and decreased libido (in 6% of patients). Some of these side effects have even resulted in the discontinuation or interruption of the treatment using the drug. The most common of these side effects are nausea, insomnia and diarrhea. Clinical studies have also suggested that akathisia is another adverse effect of the drug Zoloft. A patient suffering from the state of akathisia will exhibit restlessness which is an expression of the inner tension. It has been noted that such symptoms are exhibited after the patient is administered the first dosage of the drug or after the dosage has been increased. The symptoms disappear a few days after the drug is discontinued or the dosage is reduced. Major Side Effects One of the major side effects of antidepressant drug Zoloft is on babies in the womb, whose mothers are prescribed the drug. This is especially true in cases where the mother has been exposed to the drug during the first trimester of pregnancy. The birth defects that are most likely to be found in babies of mothers under the treatment of the drug include omphalocele, anal atresia and limb reduction defects and septal defects. As with other drugs of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor class, Zoloft can cause sexual side effects and these would include arousal disorder and problems in achieving orgasm and ejaculation. Also, like many other antidepressants, Zoloft can increase the rate of suicidal tendency, especially among children and adolescents. Hence, the prescription of such drugs to this age group of patients must be made with extreme care and caution.

Bill Johnson asked:

There are many old remedies – some call them “Old Wives Tales” – that can help relieve pain. You can often stop pain with these natural products faster and better than the traditional “pop a pill” method. Let’s take a look at some of these

Water, Water, Everywhere…

Water can do many things. Many studies show that headaches are often caused by a lack of adequate water in the body. Hence, the dehydration you have causes pain in your head – a headache. If you drink some water, even just a glass or two, it can help relieve the pain. Some people prefer using Gatorade and say it works just as well, so that is worth trying, too. Stopping pain with this natural product may seem almost miraculous!

Water can also be used in conjunction with epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) to soothe the body when there are aches and pains or even swelling with arthritis. The magnesium can be absorbed through the skin while soaking in hot water. (Fill the tub with very hot water – not scalding, but as hot as you can take otherwise – and add two cups of epsom salts. Add water as needed to keep at least very warm, aiming for about a thirty minute soak. The heat helps increase circulation and reduce swelling to the stressed body. If you stop pain with this natural product, there are many benefits. Magnesium is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties. Though it is an essential mineral, many times it is deficient in our body.

If you have a sore throat, try gargling with a warm salt-water concoction. Use a glass of warm water, add a teaspoon of salt, stir to mix and dissolve the salt, and it is ready. Gargle with it as far to the back in the throat as possible, spitting it down in the sink as you need more air. Try to finish the glass of salt water, though it will be quite a few mouthfuls. With this natural product, you can stop pain in your throat.

What about once you’ve got a full-blown cold? There are natural products with which you can stop pain and infection. Adding lemon and honey to water, you can make a lemon and honey drink that will soothe the body and help you feel better. Heat some water on the stove. It needs to be hot, but you should still be able to drink it without getting burned.  Add a teaspoon or so of honey and the juice of a lemon. The honey’s purpose is to counteract the lemon, so don’t go overboard. Mix it all together and sip it, enjoying its soothing properties as it slides down your throat.

If the cold really has you in its grip, try a garlic drink. Our grandparents knew of the healing properties of garlic and used it in many foods and healing drinks. To make it, heat water. Use very warm water, the juice of a lemon, a bit of honey to sweeten the lemon flavoring and make the drink palatable, and add the minced clove of garlic. The garlic will help the body fight the infection and the lemon and honey and warm water help you feel better, pronto.

Jessica Dale asked:

Are you frequently experiencing Chronic Gut Pain? If so in this article I will detail the main causes and cures for IBS, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation and nausea. Find out exactly what is causing the problems with your digestion and how you can experience the ability to digest your foods with no problems.

The Main Causes of Severe Digestive Problems

Food Allergies: There are a vast amount of food allergies that go undiagnosed properly, it’s no good relying on pin prick allergy tests to determine these sensitivities as they will often go unnoticed. Wheat, dairy and soy are some of the most common ones, but those with severe digestive problems can be sensitive to far more foods and even may need to avoid fibrous foods for a time to reduce inflammation of the bowels. To treat this problem, it is critical that you avoid these foods, no ifs ands or buts. Better yet get testing such as electro dermal screening to determine exactly what you’re sensitive to.

Parasites: These invasive creatures are spread much more often than you would think, gyms, bathrooms and drinking water are commonly known to harbor not only germs but parasites as well. These may not be the gigantic tape worms you’ve seen disgusting pictures of but microscopic pathogens that can cause severe bloating, diarrhea and nausea with vomiting in some cases. It’s a commonly misunderstood point that parasites are limited to 3rd world conditions, they are everywhere, and although people living in 3rd world countries may expose themselves more often to them it does not mean that those living in 1st world countries are safe from them. Parasites cleansing is a must for everyone, we de-worm our animals bi-annually, why not ourselves?

Candida: This is a yeast that exists in an estimated 90% of the population and is arguably the most common cause of all chronic severe digestive problems. It disturbs the natural bacteria in your body that assists with digestion in your colon, once this occurs everything begins to get thrown off. The only solution is to eliminate the candida overgrowth to re-balance the digestive functions of your body, once performed you can rest assured that you will fully eliminate all gas, bloating, constipation and any other digestive problems you might have. The key is also to eliminate the cause of the candida overgrowth so that you will not experience a reoccuring infection down the road.

Sean Cash asked:

Effexor (Venlafaxine) is an antidepressant of the SNRI class first introduced by Wyeth in 1999. It increases both serotonin and norepinephrine levels in the brain by inhibiting serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake, in order to help combat major depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Effexor is one of the more motivating antidepressants, which is useful since depression is usually accompanied by a lack of motivation. Effexor is a very effective antidepressant, and was ranked by Consumer Reports 2004 as the most effective of the six antidepressants they studied, making Effexor useful to people who are not able to cure their clinical depression by taking SSRI antidepressants. Doctors have switched patients unable to be treated by SSRI antidepressants over to Effexor and have found that it usually works. Effexor is also known to cause weight loss, but taking Effexor just for weight loss is not recommended.

Effexor, as with other antidepressants, carries a risk of side effects. The most common of these are a lack of libido, insomnia, dry mouth, constipation, and dizziness. These side effects may begin when you begin taking Effexor and should clear up within a month. However, if they prove too serious or inconvenient and you wish to stop taking Effexor, you should talk to your doctor and get your dose tapered off to prevent withdrawal effects. Serious side effects include increased suicidal thoughts and mania, and liver damage. Effexor, with its highly motivating properties, may exacerbate suicidal feelings when you first begin to take the drug, so it is important to be monitored for suicidal thoughts and behavior at this time. Adolescents are especially prone to suicidal thoughts and behavior when taking antidepressants.

Effexor shares the same serious withdrawal risks that other modern antidepressants can have. If you stop taking Effexor suddenly, you can experience a sensation of electric shocks running through your body, sometimes referred to as “brain zaps” or “brain shivers,” compounded with confusion and extreme mood swings. Effexor can have particularly brutal withdrawal symptoms: in some clinical studies done by the manufacturers of the drug, Wyeth, some patients had withdrawal symptoms so severe that they may have had to continue taking the drug for the rest of their lives. However, in practice this is rare, as a competent doctor should taper off your dosage of the drug so that you can come off of it gradually when you no longer need to take it, thus avoiding or reducing in severity many withdrawal symptoms. There was a class action lawsuit filed against Wyeth in 2004 because of Effexor’s withdrawal symptoms.

Effexor is a strong SNRI antidepressant that is very effective against depression, but carries with it a risk of side effects and withdrawal symptoms. A competent doctor should be able to guide you through the process of taking Effexor so that you experience as few of these complications as possible, including monitoring for serious side effects when you first start taking Effexor and having your dosage tapered off when you wish to stop taking the Effexor.

Luvox: The Unpopular Antidepressant

Sean Cash asked:

Luvox (Fluvoxamine) is an antidepressant of the class SSRI, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which affects brain chemistry in a way that combats major depression. It is also used to combat obsessive-compulsive disorder. Luvox is now no longer sold in the United States market, having been taken off in 2002 following negative press related to the Columbine Massacre. However, generic versions of fluvoxamine are sold at quite low prices, making fluvoxamine an effective and inexpensive antidepressant. Luvox is useful for patients who have to stop taking another SSRI due to debilitating side effects, which can be fairly common. Luvox has no less side effects than other antidepressants, but Luvox has different pharmacological effects than other SSRI antidepresants, so some patients may not experience as many side effects as they would taking other SSRI antidepressants. Luvox is also noted for its low incidence of sexual side effects, such as reduced libido or anorgasmia. However, some patients still experience lowered libido when taking Luvox.

Side effects of Luvox are usual SSRI side effects, and an include dry mouth, insomnia, headache, nausea, anxiety, mania, and constipation. Most of these side effects should subside as the patient becomes acclimated to Luvox, usually when the antidepressant effect of Luvox is in full swing, about a month into the treatment regimen. For some patients, these symptoms still persist, and in some cases can be uncomfortable enough for you to stop taking Luvox. You can ask your doctor and request to be switched to a different antidepressant if this is your case. In rare cases, Luvox can also potentially cause or contribute to Tourette’s Syndrome and anorexia. It is important to be observed by a caregiver or by your medical professional when taking any antidepressant medication, as changes in mood may appear suddenly. You should contact your doctor if you experience any serious side effects or personality changes.

Luvox shares severe SSRI withdrawal symptoms with all other antidepressants of the SSRI class, although anecdotal evidence suggests that the incidence of severe SSRI withdrawal with Luvox is less than with other antidepressants. Symptoms of severe SSRI withdrawal include the feeling of electric shocks running up and down your body, intense confusion, wild mood swings, insomnia, extreme irritability, and other unpleasant mental conditions. In order to avoid this, you should not stop taking Luvox suddenly, and should instead ask your doctor to taper your dosage of Luvox so that you come off of Luvox gradually rather than at once, giving your neurochemistry time to adjust.

Luvox is not a particularly popular antidepressant, as it came under scrutiny after the Columbine Massacre of 1999. One of the killers, Eric Harris, had been taking Luvox and had been denied entrance into the marines because of it. This led to a public outcry against antidepressants and an investigation into antidepressant effects on youth. It was revealed that Luvox (fluvoxamine) causes mania in about 4% of youths taking the drug. This caused sales of Luvox to spiral downward rapidly, as people linked Luvox to mania. However, fluoxamine, sold as Prozac in the United States, showed a 6% chance of inducing mania in teenagers, so Luvox is actually one of the safer antidepressants.

Luvox remains a very safe and effective treatment for clinical depression, even though negative press has reduced its usage. Fluvoxamine is available generically, so it is not as expensive as other antidepressants who are still protected by patents. You and your doctor should not let one incident in the media scare you away from this drug, and you should consider using it, especially if safety and cost are a concern.

Dorothy Hayden LCSW asked:

Chronic Pain Management with Cognitive Therapy and Hypnosis

Harnessing the power of the mind to relieve the distress of the body

When you get injured or have surgery, you expect to hurt for a while, but you know that in time, you’ll heal and the pain will leave. You recognize discomfort as a symptom but trust that treatment and time will help. While you wait for your body to mend, medication and physical therapy provide relief. Chronic pain is another story. Chronic pain is persistent pain that often has outlived its usefulness. Whether it’s the burning, shooting leg pain associated with sciatica or the aching, stiffness and soreness associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, chronic pain is unrelenting and unremitting.

Sometimes, it’s an aftereffect of an injury that appears to have healed. In some cases, chronic pain seems to develop out of the blue, with no discernable injury or tissue damage. Pain may also result from a number of non-medical causes. For instance, sometimes repressed anger and anxiety may manifest themselves in physical symptoms of pain. Over time, physical pain takes an emotional toll, making the body hurt even more. Anxiety about the condition magnifies unpleasant sensations and the result is a vicious cycle. Fear, anxiety, isolation, depression, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can be the hallmarks of living with chronic pain. But chronic pain doesn’t have to rule your life. It has been said that pain may be mandatory, but suffering is optional. When considering treatment for chronic pain, both medical and psychological interventions are necessary.

Chronic pain conditions produce enduring psychological effects such as irrational thinking and uncomfortable emotions – in other words, suffering. Pure pain as a pure sensation by itself is not as persistently wrathful, punishing or extremely bothersome as pure pain plus emotional suffering. The pain may take time to heal but the emotional overlay of pain can be transformed with cognitive therapy, group support, and self-hypnosis. Many people with chronic pain frequently become depressed. When their thinking and feelings are chronically negative, they often have urges to indulge in self-defeating or compulsive behaviors such as alcohol abuse, overuse of medication, or addiction to pain killers. Unhappiness caused by chronic pain also effects relationships with others; spouses and families may suffer. Some people may become socially isolated. Others may become increasingly dependent on others to take care of them which may put stress on interpersonal relationships. Couples counseling may be indicated.

Psychotherapy for chronic pain also focuses on dealing with the stressors people living with pain on a daily basis experience: Important factors such as disability insurance, financial stress, loss of work, diminished self-esteem, litigation complications, frustration with workman’s comp, and family stress are important components of the pain picture and treatment is designed to address these and other issues of concern to you.

What can Hypnotherapy do for my pain?

 Both sensory pain and unpleasant emotions can be lessened with hypnosis. Reduced awareness of pain means less use of medication, or, in the case of people who choose not to use painkillers, the complete discontinuation of potentially habit-forming and mind-numbing drugs. Hypnotic suggestions can reduce pain by actually retraining the nervous system to prevent the transmission of pain information to the brain. Relaxation is the opposite of discomfort. Hypnotic relaxation techniques ease tension and frequently results in people being less bothered or pre-occupied by pain sensations.

Practicing self-hypnosis puts the person back in charge of his mental experience. It counteracts the tendency to feel victimized and usually helps with depression. Hypnosis can help prepare people for chemotherapy and radiation and often reduces the noxious side effects of cancer treatment. Hypnosis is used extensively to prepare patients for surgery, reducing the need for pre-procedure sedation, excessive anesthetic agents and post operative narcotics.

Practicing hypnosis can reduce emotional anguish and suffering. The emotional part of pain can be reframed to diminish the fear, anger, resentment, and stress often associated with chronic pain. The power of mind can make a tremendous difference in the amount of suffering experienced. What kind of over-all treatment plan is suitable for treating chronic pain? Psychological pain management is a combination of approaches that include cognitive/behavioral therapy to change negative thinking and self-defeating behavior, as well as hypnotherapy to decrease pain symptoms and to change the attitudes and belief systems that may be holding back your recovery. In some cases, longer-term insight-oriented psychotherapy may be necessary. Whichever methods are used, the overall goals for psychological pain management are to help you learn how to understand, predict and manage the pain cycle, how to increase your sense of control or self-efficacy, how to use coping skills to minimize pain, and how to maximize active involvement in positive life experiences in order to rebuild as satisfying a life as possible.

Alex Ellorde asked:

Burt Reynolds, the star of Smokey and the Bandit, and many other movies, once went into a coma while trying to kick his sleeping pill addiction. He went into a coma for about eight or nine hours. At one point, the doctors already told his wife Loni to say her goodbyes. Reynolds said that at one point during his coma, he had what was called an “out-of-body experience.” He said that, in the operating room, he even heard the doctor say, “We’re losing him.” That experience helped Reynolds get rid of his drug addiction.

Robbie Williams was another celebrity who battled with addiction. According to reports, he has checked himself into rehab to escape a spiral of caffeine and sleeping pill overdose, in addition to an addiction to antidepressant medications. News reports also revealed that the pop star is addicted to an antidepressant called Seroxat on top of his compulsive consumption of caffeinated drinks. It is said that Williams can consume over 50 highly caffeinated drinks a day in the form of double espressos or cans of Red Bull tonic. In a newspaper interview, Williams said: “I can’t honestly say that I don’t take too many prescription drugs. How many is too many? I don’t know. If you drink as much coffee as I do, you can easily get into the too-many-sleeping-tablets thing.”

In Robbie William’s case, his caffeine addiction led him to an addiction to sleeping pills. But for millions of other people, the addiction to sleeping pills began due to the classic difficulty of sleeplessness. Having difficulty sleeping is a common problem shared by many. This is why sleeping pills are one of the most common medications in the market. Chronic insomnia can lead to an overall inability to cope and function in the world. Sleeping pills offer the promise of an improved night’s sleep and an overall improved capacity to cope with worries and anxieties that usually keep an insomniac wide awake till the wee hours of the morning. Sleeplessness leads to a kind of desperation that makes sleeping pills like Ambien, Sonata, Restoril and Dalmane seem positively irresistible. But are they all they’re made out to be? Do they in fact improve sleep and overall daytime functioning? The case against sleeping pills is compelling.

The following information points out some important reasons why the use of sleeping pills should be regulated and allowed only with doctor’s approval.

· Those who use sleeping pills have significantly higher mortality rates than those who do not.

· Sleeping pills do little or nothing to improve chronic insomnia and cause long-term chemical dependency.

· Sleeping pills reduce brain cell activity during the day, affecting short-term memory as well as causing a hangover effect.

· Sleeping pills accentuate the GABA neurotransmitter, which keeps the nerve cells in the lung tissue from firing. This is why an overdose of sleeping pills will cause asphyxiation and over 1000 overdose related deaths each year.

· GABA actuation is also responsible for impaired physical ability. Each year, thousands of traffic deaths, car accidents and falls (especially in the elderly) are attributed to sleeping pills.

· Sleep Apnea Patients should never take sleeping pills. Sleeping pills increase the pauses and length of pause in breathing. Someone with sleep apnea could suffer brain or ocular damage from the lack of oxygen or even death.

· Anyone over the age of 40 should be cautioned against the use of sleeping pills, and anyone over the age of 65 should never take sleeping pills. Studies show that almost all people over 40 have some symptoms of sleep apnea, and anyone over 65 would be clinically diagnosed with sleep apnea.

· Sleeping pills create a hypnotic dependency similar to alcohol and lower inhibitions and fear of pain or consequences. This is one reason why sleeping pills contribute to accidents and why chronic sleeping pill users are less likely to worry or take care of themselves.

· Sleeping pills are highly addictive. Sleeping pills are similar to barbiturates and are extremely difficult to stop using.

· Although sleeping pills do not improve daytime functioning, people still prefer taking them because of the barbiturate feel-good effect they produce. As with many addictive drugs, they may not be helpful, but we feel good when we take them.

Long-term studies on the effects of sleeping pills surely point out the need for regulation and education about its uses and effects. But with proper consultation and dosage, people who need medical aids for sleeping be assured of greater safety in the use of these medications.

Annette Badowski asked:

Postoperative pain is defined as an acute or chronic pain that is experienced after an operation or surgical procedure. While significant strides have been made in medicine in this regard, postoperative pain management can be quite difficult, especially in situations where the body sustained some physical trauma due to the operation itself. After extremely invasive procedure’s, it is to d safe to say that nearly all patients experience some degree of postoperative pain – however, the severity will dictate what kind of treatment the medical staff will provide while the patient is hospitalized. If postoperative pain persists upon release from the hospital, pain medications and physical therapy treatments may have to continue for some time on an outpatient basis.

What are the symptoms Postoperative Pain

The primary symptoms of postoperative pain often involve sensations and soreness round the surgical site or sites. Persistent postoperative pain that doesn’t go away with treatment and increasingly gets worse may be caused by a serious infection. If the surgical site is hot to the touch as well, consider it an emergency situation, and seek the attention of a medical professional right way. The most common symptoms of postoperative pain are burning, throbbing, itching, swelling, tenderness, bruising and general discomfort at or around the surgical site. Sometimes the site can become hard and sensitive to the touch. In some cases, pain can be accompanied by chills, fever, disorientation and vomiting. Should these symptoms manifest, call a doctor immediately or get to an emergency room as soon as possible

What are the causes of Postoperative Pain

Any number medical and surgical procedures can be a reason for postoperative pain. For example, abdominal surgery can produce significant postoperative symptoms. This is due to the fact that almost all surgical procedures are invasive, each involving a variety of complications and relying on physician specialties. Pain is a very often a subjective experience for most patients with medication being prescribed only after the patient has expressed a desire to be medicated. Postoperative pain can also be caused by trauma to the area that was operated on post surgery. This trauma can be introduced by the patient themselves, who may not be aware that have injured themselves if they have been heavily medicated.

Will Painwave X4000 help with Postoperative Pain?

Yes! The Painwave X4000 is an extremely effective method that can be utilized to get rid of postoperative pain. That’s because this little technological wonder is a non-invasive, drug-free method that can provide real pain relief. Unlike TENS or other similar methods of pain relief it does not ‘block’ pain signals to the brain, instead it works in concert with the body’s own bioelectromagnetic ecosystem. Painwave X4000 has absolutely no side effects, and is very simple to operate. Simply take the unit and gently glide it over the surface of the skin in a small circular motion. After a short period of time, the Painwave X4000 can greatly improve blood circulation, cell activity and lymphatic movements, all of which are beneficial in the relief of pain and other discomforts. In many cases, this stimulation will greatly reduce or eliminate pain immediately, and perhaps, permanently.

Note: These statements should in no way be used to perform a self-diagnosis If you are experiencing postoperative pain, please consult you physician for a full medical evaluation.

Darrell Miller asked:

Mental disorders, including depression, affect more than 22 percent of adults in the United States according to the National Institute of Mental Health. The stressful way in which we live contributes to this percentage of unhappy people. People feel pressure on the job and are being rushed all the time. We eat fast food on the run due to time constraints and have less time to exercise. This combination of factors leads to moodiness and irritability. It also detracts from our overall happiness.

Whether you typically experience seasonal sadness or have been diagnosed with depression, there is help available. You don’t have to accept feeling down as part of life. Nor do you have to deal with the unwanted side effects that come with taking a prescribed antidepressant or anxiety medication. All you need to take the edge off of life is natural albizzia flowers. This herb provides a natural way to reduce stress.

Albizzia Flowers as a Natural Remedy for Sadness

Albizzia flowers are herbs that have been used by the Chinese for more than 500 years to treat sadness. They also have been used by Korean and Japanese people as a natural remedy for life’s stresses.

Taken from the silk tree, albizzia is often referred to as the happy tree. It can be used for a variety of emotional needs, from spiritual disorders to emotional imbalances. It is also known as the Mimosa tree.

Uses for Albizzia Flowers

Albizzia flowers can be used to treat the following:

* Melancholy

* High stress

* Bad mood

* Irritability

* Insomnia

* Depression

* Seasonal mood disorder

* Feelings of anxiety

* Constant worrying

* Paranoia

* Bad temper

* Poor memory

* Unreasonable fears

In essence, this herbal flower provides a gentle calming effect. It works to relieve tension and bring a sense of peace over the body. The herb gives a sense of contentment and comfort, and relieves aches and pains associated with the symptoms above.

Albizzia is especially useful for those dealing with grief. Losing a loved one can feel devastating and overwhelming. Albizzia flowers help to relieve these feelings and can make coping with your loss a little easier.

Antidepressants vs. Natural Herbs to Relieve Depression

Using Albizzia flowers is much safer than taking a prescription antidepressant. Antidepressants are mind-altering drugs that have a list of unhealthy side effects. They can cause you to feel things like dry mouth to headaches. Drugs like Paxil can even increase the risk of suicide in some people. You can avoid these potentially dangerous side effects by using natural herbs to take the edge off of life.

Albizzia is a relaxant and a sedative that works to calm the liver, kidneys and heart. It works to ease and calm the mind and body without the effects of pharmaceutical drugs. Starting with a low dose of 10 drops two to three times per day is recommended. As your body adjusts, you can work your way up to 30-60 drops several times per day.

Though it isn’t a miracle herb, Albizzia is a helpful herb that can relax the body and aid mood disorders. It can be used in conjunction with prescription drugs or in place of them to minimize the effects of a stressful lifestyle.
